Normally, we will mail new patient registration forms to you unless you are coming for a dental emergency. We ask that you complete the information prior to coming for your appointment.

Please bring along your insurance card for your first visit. If you have more than one dental carrier, please verify which one is primary.

New Patient Exam

If you are not experiencing a dental emergency, we will begin by scheduling a New Patent Comprehensive Exam. At that visit, we review your dental and medical history, review your concerns, set up records, do the necessary charting of existing conditions, do a periodontal exam, and do a soft tissue exam, especially checking for oral cancer lesions, etc. We will take any necessary diagnostic x-rays, photos, etc. If you previously had a complete series of x-rays taken by a previous dentist within the last several years, we may be able to avoid taking additional films. We suggest bringing a copy of your x-rays from your previous dentist to your first dental visit.

Treatment Conference

We will sometimes schedule an appointment for a treatment conference after the initial exam has been completed. The treatment conference is done at no cost to you. The doctor will review your records and determine what treatment options are available to you. Occasionally, there may be several different approaches that can be taken. We will discuss the benefits of those options, along with the estimated cost and anticipated insurance coverage. It is our job to let you know what conditions exist and what can or should be done, but the final decision is yours. Once you have decided on the treatment to be done, our business staff will also review methods to assist in payment of the recommended services. We will submit any pretreatments to your insurance carrier if requested. We will schedule appointments to begin treatment as soon as you are ready.

Cleaning

After your initial exam, we will determine what type of cleaning will be needed, as well as how much time will be required. We will schedule an appointment for the type of cleaning that you require. If you have excessive hard calculus deposits, it may be determined that an additional visit may be required to remove the deposits. Usually we can do this in one visit, but occasionally a debridement visit is needed first, followed by a second cleaning appointment. If a patient has a history of periodontal disease, they will require a more specialized cleaning, which can also alter the amount of time required for their next visit.
